I was so terrified about our egg collection. I was scared of the pain. I was scared of getting sick from the medicine - general anesthetic and I are not friends.
I'd been feeling ok in terms of side effects (moody and tired) but after the trigger shot my stomach was so bloated. I felt like I looked 5 months pregnant! I definitely was full of follicles - 11 to be in fact.
Turns out the nurses were all lovely, the anesthetic worked awesome and didn't make me sick. They said it was like having a few glasses of wine - which for a none drinker was a very helpful analogy. You know what though, I get it now. I was out of it. Everything was allll good! As I was being wheeled out of the room I was like "is it all over? I'm a rockstar!". Tom said I made everyone laugh so i'm pretty happy with myself.
The specialist was able to get get 5 eggs from 11 follicles. I wasn't sure if that was bad but 5 is better than 4 or even none so we were very happy with 5!
What I wasn't prepared for was the recovery. Boy did I have absolutely no idea! My stomach was so sore and tender for about 4 days afterwards and i'm talking serious cramping. Pain killers and constant heat bags definitely were my saviour. My advice - take care of yourself and plan a few quiet days at home following.
After that, the best thing was the next day I got a call and all 5 eggs had fertilised, then 4 had made it to day 3!
Four little Jess & Tom embryos - YAY!
