Memory Lane

Me and my little sister, Heather
I'm taking a trip down memory lane at the moment. We were at my parents farm for the Easter long weekend, spending time with two of my sisters, their families and my mum. This is the house I grew up, that I couldn't wait to leave as a teenager (to be all independent - not to get away from my family), and the house that now can't wait to come back to visit as often as possible.

We often tease my mum and call her a hoarder. The house is covered in photos of us at all ages and let's just say mum is less of a minimalist in her decorating that her daughters. One thing there is lots of is memories. My Nana never kept anything from when mum was little - there are one or two photos and that's it which is pretty sad. I'd love to be able to see more of things from my parents as young children.

Now because mum didn't have anything from her childhood, she made sure we had plenty! So this weekend we have been sorting through boxes and boxes. This includes a huge bag of all the schoolyard letters from my girlfriends from age 12- 16 (oh the shame!). There was so much that wasn't worth keeping but there are some things that are just precious. So although I was very tired of it on the second day of sorting boxes, I love that I now have a collection of special keepsakes from my childhood.

Do you have anything special from your childhood? A treasured possession or keepsake? If you have kids are you keeping everything, or just a few special things? I'd love to know!

Now, if you fancy having a laugh at me, i'll be on Huff Post Live tomorrow (Tues 11.30 SYD or Mon 8.30pm EST USA) talking about April Fools Day Pranks - and wondering why this introvert keeps putting myself out in video things like this!

(Oh yes! About 3 days late, in keeping with memories, here is my song of the week, I watched Dirty Dancing about 5 million times as a kid and watching it now still makes me want to be up on stage dancing like Baby!)
